Mission Tour with Elder & Hermana Zeballos

Our annual mission tour for 2017 was scheduled for Wednesday, November 29 through Saturday, December 1.  The Zeballoses were coming to conduct the conferences in our mission.  Elder Zeballos and his wife were scheduled to fly in on Wednesday morning early. Our plan was to pick them up at the airport, take them to our home so they could rest a bit and then we were supposed to travel to La Ceiba that afternoon where we would begin the first of two multi-zone conferences.  On our way to the airport that morning, we became a bit unsettled as evidence of increasing political unrest seemed to be escalating. Just after landing, we received reports of road closures and major demonstrations in the streets. There was speculation that the airport was going to be shut down as well.  We communicated this information to Elder Zeballos who in turn got on the phone with the area presidency in Guatemala.  It was decided that the tour should be cancelled and the Zeballoses were to return to Guatemala on the next available flight back. 

The political unrest finally quieted and our mission tour was rescheduled for Thursday, February 8 through Saturday, February 10.  On the morning of 8th we proceeded to the airport to pick-up our guests.  It was a very foggy morning, and upon our arrival at the airport we found that the airport had been closed to incoming and outgoing flights until conditions improved. The Zeballoses plane circled the airport for thirty minutes hoping the skies would clear.  When things did not improve, it was decided that the plane would need to fly to El Salvador.  There they refueled and received word that the conditions were now suitable for them to return to the airport in San Pedro Sula.  The plane arrived in San Pedro Sula about ten o'clock a.m. and we were able to proceed with our first conference that day, though our schedule had to be modified due to the delay.  The rest of the conference proceeded without any other complications or disruptions.  We spent three delightful days with our missionaries and the Zeballoses.  The conferences were filled with the spirit and all were edified, inspired and invigorated.
