Christmas Devotional Zone Conferences

This was a very special Zone Conference for us as we were finally able to travel to see our missionaries throughout the mission to celebrate a late Christmas.  After the political unrest following the presidential election quieted, the roads were once again opened.  It has been a very difficult five weeks for our missionaries to conduct the work of salvation here in Honduras.  We are hopeful that peace will prevail and that we can return to the work that we have been called to perform.  We love these amazing young missionaries and appreciate the sacrifices they are making to be here in the Lord's service.  We love our Savior, Jesus Christ and are grateful for his life, example, and atonement. We are grateful for the peace that this knowledge brings into our lives even during challenging times. We are looking forward to seeing the work flourish in 2018.  Happy New Year to all!

Just in Time for the Holidays!

Following the presidential elections here in Honduras in November 2017, there were major disruptions in the missionary work. We were unable to get our newly arriving missionaries into San Pedro Sula on schedule due to the protests that closed both roads as well as the airport.  As a result, the missionaries had to wait until Saturday, December 23 before it was deemed safe for them to travel from the Guatemala MTC to our mission.  We were so glad to welcome them right in time for Christmas.  

 

 

The other part of the transfer cycle was also disrupted with regards to missionaries that had finished their service and were supposed to travel home.  Again, due to temporary road and airport closures, travel plans were delayed.  Our Assistants to the President were amazing as they rose to the challenge of caring for a large number of missionaries in their home. The office elders even prepared a delicious lasagna casserole with all the trimmings to serve as the traditional farewell dinner that usually takes place in the mission president's home on the final evening in the mission. We felt very fortunate that we were able to get all of the missionaries back to their families just in time to celebrate the Christmas holiday.
